Dragonz N Cornz

A little bit about us and how our reptile business got started.

When my son started daycare a few years back his sitter had the cutest little turtle.  My son loved watching the turtle.  The sitter eventually rescued a bearded dragon that they named Spike.  We thought the turtle was cool but had never seen a bearded dragon before!  He was so fun to watch eat, and dig in the sand.  They would take him outside and he would sit and bask in the sun, sometimes even closing his eyes.  I thought that was the look of relaxation, you know the look you get when you are on vacation sitting by the pool with a drink in your hand.  That lizard was enjoying the sun as much as I enjoy a vacation!

Well it didn't take long before I wanted my very own Spike.  We started looking around and all of a sudden this whole new world opened up.  I never knew there were so many different types of reptiles; snakes, lizards, turtles, etc.  And the colors and patterns that some of these animals expressed was out of this world.  While I wanted a bearded dragon I started fantasizing about corn snakes.  I had dreams about them; I even started jumping out of bed at night to find the snake that I thought was slithering through my room!  They were so pretty with their endless array of colors that had been bred into them.  My husband and I were both shocked when I ended up with a corn snake before a bearded dragon.  Even more surprising was that with all those pretty colors available I ended up with a "normal" or "Okeetee phase"; at least that's what everyone told me he was.  I thought he was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.  That was where our journey began.

We started doing research, finding and talking with other breeders, going to shows, doing more research, and then doing some more research.  Quickly 1 snake became 3; 3 became 9; and we finally bought a bearded dragon, not before we bought a Uromastyx though.  We did the same thing with the bearded dragons as the corn snakes.  1 became 2 and so on.  We even rescued a few here and there.  Then we decided that perhaps our hobby of purchasing and loving our reptiles should be taken one step further, and we started our own breeding company.

Today my husband and I, with the help of our children, breed reptiles as a hobby.  2009 is our first year for hatching bearded dragons!  2010 should be very exciting for us, we should have both bearded dragon and corn snake eggs in our incubator.  In 2011 we are expecting to add ball pythons to the mix.  We are very excited to have a hobby that pulls us together as a family; this is something we all enjoy working on.  Please look around the website, if you have any questions give us a call or email us.  We will always be happy to talk and/or share any stories with you.
